Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) in Egypt| Status Report

The PGS (Participatory Guarantee System) initiatives in Egypt have made significant progress in recent years. In January 2020, RDNA, the food community, established the first PGS system in Egypt (Rdna PGS); they conducted various awareness-raising activities to promote this new and beneficial system.

In January 2022, another PGS system, Demeter PGS, was launched, aligning with the international demeter standards. However, the COAE is currently in the process of acquiring accreditation from Demeter International to issue certificates under this system.

In July 2022, Demeter Egypt association (EBDA) developed the EoL PGS standard, which stands for Economy of Love. This comprehensive standard encompasses the environmental, fairness, cultural, and economic dimensions. Demeter Egypt dedicated three years to develop
this holistic standard. The Center of Organic Agriculture in Egypt (COAE) was authorized to certify the EoL PGS in Egypt. Towards the end of 2022, an agreement was reached with EBDA to merge Rdna PGS with EoL PGS.
